How your Brain can Make you a Better Parent:

If you want to be a kinder person, do things that are kind. Then, you will be a kinder person. Simple concept, yet mind-blowing, right? We have the power to be anyone we want to be. The power lies within to shape our lives in any way we want.
Do we want to understand our choices better? Do we want a less stressful life? Yes and yes. We have the tools to change our behavior but we might not realize what these tools are.
Why am I telling you this?
Every day, we make life choices that have an impact on our health. Once we have a better understanding of these choices, we can conquer anything.
There is a new age of healthcare happening around on, focusing on active change and self-awareness. It is about understanding ourselves better and how we react to the world around us.

As you know, I have recently partnered with Evolve Personal Health, the only one of its kind Health Coaching Practice in South Tampa, targeting chronic conditions, such as Hypertension, Obesity, High Cholesterol and Diabetes. Their first focus is Hypertension, which as I have mentioned before, affects one out of two  Americans. Yep, scary stats, so pay attention!
How we feel about ourselves, including our health, impacts our parenting style and in fact, everyone and everything around us. As a member (local or remote) of Evolve’s newly launched Lifestyle Conditioning Packages, again focusing on Hypertension, you will be inspired to be purposeful and mindful in your daily interactions.
What will happen is you will naturally end up inspiring others around you. As this process organically continues, whole communities and populations will be reached through simple acts of kindness and being proactive. Imagine that? We can create who we want to be as a society.
We tend to look at things as so complicated when in reality, they are not. We are powerful people with powerful minds. When we can tap into our inner self, the alterations we can make are endless. These changes are what impact our health in a positive way and this positive way will impact how we parent, interact with family, friends and co-workers. One thought and action in our brains can do all that? YES!
Introspective growth is pretty amazing and along with nutritional guidance, you can naturally get your Hypertension under control. Chitra Prasad-Patel, Co-founder of Evolve Personal Health and highly trained Introspective Coach, will provide you with coping mechanisms to reduce your stresses of daily life that are negatively affecting your health, including life-work balance and yep, parenting.
It’s about changing our perspective and being mindful. Sound a little bizarre? Can it really be that simple? Let’s look at some medical evidence to answer that.

Have you heard of Neuroplasticity? Don’t lie. I had not either. You are about to be amazed. Medicinenet.com tells us it is “the brain’s ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections throughout life. Neuroplasticity allows the neurons (nerve cells) in the brain to compensate for injury and disease and to adjust their activities in response to new situations or to changes in their environment.” Yep, told you so. As my son would say, “Science is so cool”. YES, IT IS!
“Modern research has demonstrated that the brain continues to create new neural pathways and alter existing ones in order to adapt to new experiences, learn new information and create new memories.”
What does this mean for us?
We can change the structure of our brain by any conscious thought we have or action we do.
Our own body is the key to it all. WOW!
People are afraid of change, yet need to change in order to grow. According to Dailygood.org, “A dangerous belief in our culture is that we can’t change. We’ve all heard the disempowered statements: “He’s just grumpy. He can’t change that.” or “I will always be anxious. It’s the way I was born.” While we most certainly have genetic predispositions, the brains of individuals’ young and old can change in amazing ways.”
So if this is the case, this is remarkable news, right? The power to make modifications to our lifestyle and our health is right inside of us. Now what? What can we do with this incredible information?

Enter Evolve Personal Health again. They can dig deep to help you understand your EQ, (Emotional Quotient, as opposed to your IQ, Intelligent Quotient). Huh? Well, how you handle and shift your emotions, read other people’s emotions and how your thoughts are based on how you feel.
We are in control, even though we may not know it or understand it…yet. We can be whoever we want to be. We can wake up and put our wishes into action. Remember I talked about wanting to be a kinder person? Small task with large results. What about motherhood? What type of journey do we want to experience when it comes to parenting?
Most of us moms are consistently stressed out. If you do not fall into that category, you are either lying, are taking way too many Xanax or need to start sharing your secrets immediately. We don’t want to complain, although sometimes it feels really good, but we do. The weeks fly by and there is no change because we do nothing to make those adjustments.
When our kids act out, we have a choice to experience the journey of motherhood the way we want to. Whether or not we yell, shut down or patiently calm our child down, is up to us. Regardless of the chosen method, we can train ourselves to take away judgment from the choices we make.
It is much bigger than worrying about being a bad parent. This stress, along with other factors, can lead to chronic diseases, like Hypertension. We have the power to identify our stressors, manage them better and make those life-saving modifications, and that exists within us.
Let’s be honest, no one is jolly and care-free all the time and that is not the goal. Remember, no one is perfect? However, we still need to gain a sense of awareness. Let’s say a major source of stress is the pressure we feel from other moms to be “perfect” all the time.
As we develop a higher awareness, we start to see these moms differently. We then notice they have insecurities too. You realize that their difficulty in communication comes from fear. We then start removing judgment from the experience and start viewing things objectively. With this new perspective, our stress has actually decreased significantly without spending so much time focusing on the stressors itself. Instead, our awareness itself has changed our viewpoint of the situation.
As I am learning about the incredible power of my brain, I realize the day is about so much more than just waking up, packing lunch boxes, carpooling, work, meetings, sports, bedtime, etc. When we look for alternative ways that already exist to make life changes, it will have a positive impact on our health, parenting, relationships, work and overall well-being.
So if one out of every two Americans suffers from Hypertension, doesn’t it make sense to tap into our new-found power to reduce the stressors causing our chronic illness? I think so too.
Take some time to digest all of this as it is a lot of new and intense information. Then head to Evolve Personal Health to learn how Chitra and the Evolve staff, including Dr. Vim Patel, have created much-needed space for their patients to receive accurate information about their health conditions, as well as the tools that will bring about behavior change.
